The questions we hear most.
Common questions, answered simply.
What information do I need to refer someone?
Helpful details include how you know the person, their contact details, the reason for the referral and any relevant history. If you do not have everything, reach out anyway and we will help you complete the referral so the person does not fall through the cracks.
What happens after I refer?
A team member reviews the referral and follows up to learn more and connect the person with the right service. Note anything time-sensitive when you refer. In a crisis, call or text the 988 Suicide & Crisis Lifeline, or call 911 if there is immediate danger.
Which services can I refer to?
You can refer to any of our services, including therapy, medication support, substance use services, children, youth and family services, adult support services, housing, and support for older adults. If you are unsure which fits, refer anyway and our team will help route the referral.
Can people refer themselves?
Yes. Anyone can use this page, including people looking for help for themselves. You can also use our Reach Out page or call (316) 685-1821. A self-referral and a referral from someone else can work together, and we will coordinate so the person gets connected smoothly.
How do I refer someone in crisis?
If someone is in immediate danger, call 911. For a mental health crisis, they can call or text the 988 Suicide & Crisis Lifeline any time. Put their immediate safety first, then submit a referral so we can coordinate ongoing support once the person is stable.
Do you accept referrals for people without insurance?
Yes. Refer anyone regardless of insurance status. MHASCK accepts Kansas Medicaid, works with many plans, and offers sliding scale fees based on income. Cost should not stop someone from getting connected, so refer them and we will help work out coverage and options.
Who do I contact for a specific service?
Call the Main Office at (316) 685-1821 for general questions. For therapy, medication and substance-use services, call MHASCK at Countryside at (316) 652-2590. For housing and residential services, call Residential Services at (316) 651-1813.
How do I send protected health information securely?
Contact us and we will provide a secure method for sending protected health information. Please avoid sending sensitive details through regular email. If you are unsure of the safest way to share information, ask us and we will guide you to a compliant option.
