Frequently asked questions

Questions, answered simply.

I need housing tonight: what do I do?

If you are in immediate danger, call 911. For a mental health crisis, call or text the 988 Suicide & Crisis Lifeline. For shelter tonight, reach out to us and we will connect you with partner organizations that provide emergency shelter, and our Community Resource Directory lists local options you can contact right away.

What is the difference between MHASCK services and partner referrals?

MHASCK provides mental health services, case management, and certain housing programs directly. For emergency shelter and services we do not offer, we refer you to trusted partner organizations, such as Second Light, which are separate providers. We always tell you clearly which is which so you know who you are working with.

Is there a cost?

Housing navigation and referrals are about connecting you to help, and many services for people facing homelessness are free or low cost. Some MHASCK services are covered by Kansas Medicaid or offered on a sliding scale. Our team will help you understand any cost and find options you can afford.

Can someone help me navigate options?

Yes. That is exactly what housing navigation is. A team member helps you understand your options, connect to the right services and partners, and take the next step, so you are not facing a confusing system alone during an already stressful time.

Do you help with emergency housing?

We help you navigate emergency housing and connect you with partner organizations that provide shelter, since MHASCK does not run an emergency shelter directly. We also connect you with mental health and case management support. Reach out and we will help you find the fastest path to safety.
