Recognize the Warning Signs

Recognizing suicide warning signs can save lives. Watch for behaviors like talking about death, feeling hopeless, or giving away possessions. Be alert to increased substance use, withdrawal from friends and activities, or extreme mood swings. Other signs include expressing feelings of being trapped, unbearable pain, or being a burden to others. If you notice these signs, ask directly about suicidal thoughts, listen without judgment, and offer support. Don’t leave the person alone, and help them connect with professional resources immediately.
