Free Youth Prevention Programs in Sedgwick County

Youth Prevention services provide early intervention and prevention programs for the youth of Sedgwick County at schools, preschools, camps, community centers, and treatment facilities free of charge. Participants in each program can be referred by parents, school staff, community center directors, or other appropriate contacts.

Paths For Kids

PATHS for Kids

The PATHS for Kids program uses an evidence-based curriculum to promote social and emotional learning while reducing aggression and disruptive behaviors in elementary-aged children. The PATHS curriculum focuses on five key areas: self-control, emotional understanding, self-esteem, peer relationships, and interpersonal problem-solving skills.

PATHS for Kids groups meet for 10-12 weeks and are available in classroom settings, during lunch, or after school.

Pathways is the longest-running substance abuse prevention support program in Sedgwick County, serving children ages 11 to 18.

The 8-12 session program focuses on drug education and prevention, self-esteem, peer pressure, and anger management. Pathways encourages students to seek healthy alternatives to drug use.

Groups are available in classroom settings, during lunch, or after school.

Girl Empowerment

Girl Empowerment

The Girl Empower Program (GEP) is a structured, gender-specific support group for girls ages 9 to 18.

GEP uses Girl Circle, a research-based curriculum that promotes an emotionally safe environment where girls can develop caring relationships and express themselves authentically.

GEP groups meet for 12-15 sessions, focusing on topics such as bullying, emotional self-care, shoplifting, healthy relationships, body image, and friendship.

Groups are available in classroom settings, during lunch, or after school.

Boys 2 Men

Boys 2 Men

Boys 2 Men (B2M) is a gender-specific program designed for boys ages 12 to 18. B2M uses Boys Council, a research-based curriculum that supports boys and young men in navigating a safe, strong, and healthy transition through their pre-teen and adolescent years.

B2M groups meet for 12-15 sessions, focusing on topics such as roles and expectations, bullying, put-downs, respect, power, and emotions. Groups are available in classroom settings, during lunch, or after school.

Compeer

Compeer-Wichita is a youth mentoring program that connects area youth in grades K-12,who are faced with social and emotional barriers with caring trained adults to create a meaningful, supportive relationship.
